Jehovah’s king. (1.) The head of the fifth division of the priests in the time of David (1 Chr. 24:9). (2.) A priest, the father of Pashur (1 Chr. 9:12; Jer. 38:1). (3.) One of the priests appointed as musicians to celebrate the completion of the walls of Jerusalem (Neh. 12:42). (4.) A priest who stood by Ezra when he “read in the book of the law of God” (Neh. 8:4). (5.) Neh. 3:11. (6.) Neh. 3:31. (7.) Neh. 3:14.

MALCHI'AH (Jehovah's king). A Gershonite Levite, the ancestor of Asaph. 1 Chr 6:40. Two who had married foreign wives. Ezr 10:25, 1 Chr 24:31, the latter probably the same as Malchijah. Neh 3:11. Two who helped to repair the wall of Jerusalem. Neh 3:14. A priest who stood beside Ezra when he read the Law to the people in the street before the Water-gate. Neh 8:4. A priest, the father of Pashur, Neh 11:12; probably the same as Melchiah, Jer 21:1; Neh 11:12; Jer 38:1, and Malchijah. An officer in whose cistern Jeremiah was thrown, Jer 38:6, the dry cistern being used in Palestine as a dungeon.
