AMALEKITES, COUNTRY OF THE, a region lying between Canaan and Egypt, chiefly south of the mountains of Judah, and from Mount Sinai eastward to Mount Seir and the Salt Sea. A mountain or hilly district in Ephraim, probably so named from an early settlement of the Amalekites or a later invasion by them.
